MEET HOWIE
Dedicated to Serving Sheridan County
I am a proud Sheridan native, a Patriot, and a lifelong public servant. Born and raised right here, I graduated from Sheridan High School and attended Sheridan College before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.
After serving my country, I couldn’t wait to return home to Sheridan to raise my children and protect the community I love. I joined the Sheridan Police Department, where I proudly served my neighbors for over 20 years. No matter my title, my passion has always been—and always will be—service to this community.
A Career Built on Experience & Professionalism
During my two decades with the Sheridan Police Department, I took on diverse roles to ensure our department operated at the highest level. My hands-on experience includes serving as a:
-
School Resource Officer: Spent my final 8 years building lasting, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families at Sheridan Jr. High School.
-
Mental Health Advocate: Helped bring critical Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training to Sheridan and served as a Mental Health First-Aid Instructor.
-
Tactical & Skills Instructor: Served as a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Tactical Officer, Precision Marksman/Instructor, and Armorer.
-
Community Leader: Organized the annual Shop with a Cop event for many years, bringing joy to local kids and fostering community trust.
-
Specialized Patrol: Served as both a Bike Officer and Motor Officer.
Following my retirement from the police department, I chose to continue serving our youth by working as a para-professional and discipline technician at Sheridan Jr. High School.
A Family Tradition of Service
Service is a cornerstone of my family life. My wife, Sandy, is also a retired law enforcement veteran, having served 20 years—most of which was spent right here with the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office. Today, she continues to serve our community's veterans as a Registered Nurse in the Acute Psychiatric Unit at the VA Hospital in Sheridan.
I humbly ask for your vote for Sheridan County Sheriff. Please feel free to reach out with your questions and concerns—or let's just sit down, grab a coffee, and chat!

I believe in the importance of community policing, integrity in law enforcement, and transparent communication with citizens to ensure effective public safety.
HONESTY
Open communication and absolute transparency form the bedrock of community trust. As your Sheriff, I am committed to leading with facts, keeping our department accountable, and always telling the truth to the people of Sheridan County.
PROFESSIONALISM
Our community deserves a law enforcement agency that operates with the highest standards of training, respect, and discipline. I will ensure our deputies are equipped to serve with excellence, keeping our neighborhoods safe through modern, respectful policing.
INTEGRITY
Real leadership means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. I pledge to uphold the Constitution, protect your rights, and guide the Sheriff’s Office with an unyielding moral compass that puts public service above politics.
EXPERIENCE
With a proven track record of dedicated service, I have the seasoned leadership required to handle the complexities of modern law enforcement. I don't need on-the-job training—I am ready to protect and serve Sheridan County effectively from day one.
